Master Bathroom Remodel
OVERVIEW: Master bathroom remodel on the second floor of a circa 1900s home. The plan involved removing an inoperable jetted sunken tub, repairing a leaking shower, and reconstructing architectural trim details to match the home’s age and decor
CHALLENGES: The current bathroom was originally converted from a porch space, which has resulted in a floor that is uneven by three inches and inadequate insulation, making it difficult to prevent the water pipes from freezing. The finished areas below hinder access to the plumbing, complicating the relocation needed for the new layout. Furthermore, the existing wiring was outdated and did not comply with current codes.
SOLUTIONS: A self-leveling lightweight cement product was used to elevate and level the floor system. The work was conducted from inside the bathroom to avoid disrupting the living space below. The floor system was reconstructed to accommodate the new plumbing layout. Additionally, closed-cell spray foam insulation was applied to prevent the pipes from freezing in colder areas.
RESULTS: Flat and level floor system designed to prevent future freeze-up issues. The bathroom features a new freestanding oversized soaking tub, a fully tiled shower, and upgraded electrical, insulation, plumbing, and finishes.
TIMELINE: 90-day design and 30-day build schedule
